Youth Services
IMPACT’s Youth Services team addresses disability issues for children and young adults, from birth through 22 years old. The program educates families on options, opportunities, and ideas for children with disabilities. The program also supports young adults with information, guidance and disability knowledge to help them plan their futures.
It is easy to become overwhelmed trying to understand the many systems involved in supporting a child with a disability. The program is run by individuals with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities who have experienced the system from a user perspective and have sat on the parent side of the IEP educational team table. Staff members provide insight into the many complicated issues families confront.
The Youth Team provides education, information, training and support to enable families and youth with disabilities to make informed choices.
As a member of the statewide Family Matters Parent Training & Information Center (www.fmptic.org). IMPACT’s Youth Team is responsible for providing training in the southern region of Illinois. IMPACT, Inc. is also listed in the Illinois State Board of Education publication Parent’s Guide: The Educational Rights of Students with Disabilities.
