SUPPORT GROUPS A service which brings together persons with similar disabilities or similar issues to collectively share experiences, knowledge, and skills. Support groups offer individuals an opportunity to seek out information in a supportive, sensitive, setting. It is difficult for people with disabilities to discuss personal issues with people that they don't feel can understand. People attending support groups have "been there" and are sensitive to issues their peers want to discuss. The following support groups meet on a monthly basis:
Blind Support Group- First Wednesday of the month at the IMPACT offices
Deaf Senior Citizens Support Group- First Tuesday of every month, except July in the East Room next to the IMPACT Offices.
Blind Support Group- Third Monday of the every month 10-12 @ the Jersey County Community hospital located in Jerseyville.
All Disabilities Support Group- Beginning in August 2005 the group will meet the Third Monday at one at Jersey County Community Hospital in Jerseyville 1:00.
Brain Injury Support Group: Second Thursday at 6:20-? At IMPACT.
Beginning in August of 2005, the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill (NAMI) will hold two support groups at the IMPACT offices; Sharing and Caring Support Group First Tuesday of the month from 7-9 p.m; Third Tuesday of every month, Parent Support Group will meet from 7-9 p.m.
